This year is a memorable year for me, most importantly that it is 1 years since my Sister passed away. I wanted to recognise this by raising some money in support of an important charity for me and something Aura would of supported.
It is hard to believe it has been 1 year since I spoke to my sister and I think about her every day and although she’s no longer with me, I wanted to do something that I hoped would make her proud.
To be honest I ran for two reasons on this day; both of which are linked. First and foremost my sister Aura Ion, she was a trainee military doctor and was prominent in her volunteering work for a liver transplant institution back in Romania along with lots of work for local causes. Aura was an inspiration to me as her life was dedicated to helping others, something I wish to continue in her memory. I wanted to find a challenge that would push me physically, mentally and emotionally and I think I have found this in the Bath Half Marathon running with friends keeping Aura’s legacy alive.
15 of us descend upon the Bath Half Marathon start line displaying Aura’s image and that of the chosen charity “Hospices of Hope”.
But standing on that start line with my colleagues and close friends all wearing the image of Aura, it suddenly became far more meaningful than just raising funds than I could of ever imagined.
For a brief moment, I just paused and glanced at what seemed to be a sea of T-shirts bearing my sisters image. This was a magical moment!
Big shout out to below amazing people who endured 13 miles of pain and managed to finish the Bath Half in one piece;
